I grinned full into Barry's face from my perch and ran down the list of all that he had done to pamper me on Sunday. The 2 "biggies" had made a huge impression. He ran boys to soccer practice while encouraging me to take a nap. He also made dinner and insisted on helping with clean up.
"I am feeling so loved and cherished today, honey!" I said. "You've earned a whole boat-load of DQ points!"
He looked puzzled for a moment, laughed and then said that he'd like a Cookie Dough Blizzard please. Now I was confused. We weren't speaking each other's language. I had meant Domestic Quotient Points, but he had heard Dairy Queen Points. Doesn't matter to me--I'm up for Dairy Queen any time! I'm treating this hunk to a Blizzard as soon as I can get there.
Our marriage is very happy, but after watching some friends struggle, we know that every marriage should be nurtured and worked on continually. This year we attended Life Way's Festival of Marriage at Ridgecrest, NC. If you have the chance to attend one of their conferences in your area, I highly recommend it. We came away wanting to work on two areas--Bible study and love languages.
We've done our own quiet times for years, but we haven't done as well spending time with God together. The couple that facilitated the break out that we attend on couples' Bible study was terrific. They were transparent about how they had also struggled for consistency. We came away with a simple system and the encouragement to set realistic goals and to start over when we've missed days. I'll share their system on Thursday.
My brother said something hilarious about the whole love language idea. "For half the world, we already know their love language," he said. "It's physical touch, of course. It's only the other half that we have to figure out." That's probably about right! Barry has figured out my love language, though. It's acts of service. All those thoughtful acts on Sunday really added up. I might have to buy that man a week's worth of Blizzards!

Mmmmmmmm :)
I want an Oreo Blizzard from Dairy Queen right now, myself. Yum :)
And yes. My hubby and I could do a much better job getting in The Word and praying together - not just on our own. Thanks for the encouragement!
Have a lovely week :)
Blessings,
Kate :)
Thanks Amy.
I wish that I had that kind of connection with my husband. Maybe one day. I almost can't even picture praying together with him. It would seem so uncomfortable, but isn't that what growing is about? Stepping outside of your comfort zone? He is making progress on attending church with me if he is in town not working. 2 weeks in a row he went. :) That's progress. You are such an inspiration. I can't wait for Thursday's post.
Have a wonderful day!
So funny...I was thinking about Love Languages to day. This is because there has been a communication warp in our home lately. So I decided to do my part first. Already things are better...just that quick.

I think your brother's right....and I thought Dairy Queen as well :-)
If you get a chance, you can read how I feel about my honey...
Looking forward to seeing you this summer!
