Lessons Learned on the Run--God Has Something for Me (and You!) Today

Lately I've been heading out for my wun minus my iPod. Big mistake. You know that I count steps without something flowing into my ears.

Today I uploaded a conference call led by Luann Prater on prayer. God is so good to give us the right teaching at the right time! There were 2 main things that God reminded me of through Luann as I ran:

1. Quiet time with God each morning should be a non-negotiable. Luann challenged us to think about our non-negotiables...sleep, food, talking...and then challenged us to begin seeing time with God as a non-negotiable. I love that thought. I can sing "You are the air I breathe" but often I don't act like I believe it. I can't live without air, and I need to remember that I can't experience Life without Him.

2. God has something important to tell me TODAY. If I wait until tomorrow, the time has passed. Knowing that (and I've seen over and over that it's true) gives me an urgency and a craving for time with Him. I can't wait to hear what Jesus has to say to me today!

This morning I asked Him to speak specificially through His Word to me about some circumstances that are weighing heavily on my heart. He did! Here's what He said that relate directly to my situation:

"My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." (Colossians 2:2-3)

He is so good! I'd love to hear what God has spoken to you today!

I try to speak to him....I am open to him...but soo many times my negative thoughts get in the way. How do you allow his words get through? I just struggle with this!! I am trying...but can't get the thoughts processed!!

Kimberly, I struggled with that even as I listened to Luann's call today. You aren't the only one!

I've got 2 suggestions:
1. Read scripture out loud. Sometimes I can't even read silently without my thoughts drifting. Also, journaling (or the 3-step Bible study method I use)helps to keep me focused since I write as I process.

2. I recently heard Lynn Cowell say that she'll say "Stop it!" out loud when she starts to have out of control negative thoughts. Then she starts to intentionally refocus her thoughts. She said that her kids think she's crazy sometimes but it really works!

Any other helpful practices, ya'll?

Loved these reminders and thoughts through you and Luann. How sad that we often miss those things He wants to speak to us and over us because we didn't take the time.

He is so good...and His love for us so great!

Good Morning, I love it when God speaks directly to me. The last time I truly remember him speaking to me was last year when I "accidentally" got on another bus to go home. It led me right to a woman I had seen weeks and months before. AS I stepped off the bus there she was. And looked like she needed to hear from someone. I stopped briefly and commented that I liked her new hair style and it really looked good on her. After I left her she seemed to have this brighter attitude that she did not have before I started talking with her.

So since then I have tried really hard to listen and hear God.

It is so true that God is always speaking to us if we listen:)
