Unlike the struggle that it sometimes is to write a devotion, today's devotion, Treasured, just poured out of me. The experiences in India are still so fresh and grip my heart. They're also continuing to shape me and to challenge me in my life at home.
Maybe, like me, you hold the indescribable gift of being well-loved and knowing you are treasured. I’m very thankful for experiencing unconditional love from God and those around me, but often I’ve taken it for granted. Sometimes I’ve been complacent and lazy as I bask in the blessing.
I’ve found that knowing you are God’s treasure is both a blessing and a responsibility.
It’s not enough to internalize the truth; we’re called to spread it.
Spread it to the utterly exhausted mom in the grocery store who can’t remember the last kind word.
Spread it to your single friend who despairs of ever being loved by a husband.
Spread it to a rape victim in Congo.
Spread it to a hungry little girl in Ecuador.
Spread it to the prostitute sold by her mother in Kolkata.
Spread it to your neighbor who has the word “worthless” emblazoned on her soul.
Each one. Treasured. Just like you.
Pass it on.
On Wednesday I'll be sharing more about the journey I'm on to let these truths about being treasured shape me. On Friday my friend Heatherly will be guest blogging about some ways that we can all get involved in spreading the message about God's love. Please, please come back. I usually don't plead for blog visits, but this issue is truly burning on my heart. I'd love for us to be on the journey together.
In the meantime, I want you to know that YOU are treasured. This song by Nicole Nordeman says it beautifully. Watch, listen and soak in this truth.

Oh, those precious, precious women. Thank you, Amy, for introducing them to us so that we may pray for them, if not by name, then by situation.
Thank you for reminding us how important we are to God.
It's true that we are called to share God's love with those around us who need to feel the touch of His Light. After He restored me, He let me bask awhile in just knowing I am His. Now He has gently nudged me into joyously sharing this hope with others. Each day is an opportunity to share His love with the people I meet.
Amy, I loved this post. It reminded me of the message I brought to a missions banquet in Greensboro last month. The Lord reminded me that we are to go into ALL the world. That includes the single mom in the cashier's line or the homeless living under the bridge or the unemployed neighbor living next door. We are to go into ALL the world and comfort them with the comfort we have received (2 Corinthians 1:3,4) I love how God sends a message through the Body. He is so awesome!
Beautiful devotion, Amy. I could relate to the "invisible woman" as I converted from Islam back in 2006 and was disowned by family for sometime. My Dad died in a car accident unreconciled to me so the pain of being "invisible" by people you love is so very real to me. God allowed me to reconcile with my Mom and sisters and I make it a point to show them God's love so that they may want to know more about Him and accept Him as Lord and Savior in their lives.
Thank you again for the love you have shown these women and for your committment to encourage those who are bold in Christ to sacrifice everything in order to follow Him.
Love and blessings sweet sister.
I've been through what those women in india experience and it is happening around the globe forever But with Christ we can do all things and even the Holy Soirit our comforter and peace will
Be there
Always My Daddy's Girl and Anonymous,
Thank you so much for adding your voice as a woman who has been through a painful experience. You are loved by your Father and by the women who join together on this blog. Your faithfulness inspires us!
Hi Amy,
Thank you for this devotion, and the reminder that so many women need to be affirmed and need to know Jesus.
Have you seen the trailer for "It's A Girl"? The documentary is supposed to release this year and is about how undervalued girls and women are especially in India and China. I thought about you when I watched it. Here's a link if you're interested in seeing it--about 3 minutes long.
