Although it's been a lazy morning, the boys and I have finally eaten brunch, cleaned up and moved on with the day. I love summer! Slow mornings with coffee and a book are a blessing.
But I can tell you that by the end of the summer I will be more than ready for some structure. I love rest, but there's a part of me that also loves a schedule and a to-do list.
I love the idea of helping to alleviate poverty through helping people with a desire to work. There are a couple of fairly new ways to give in this way: fair trade businesses and micro-loans. I'll talk about both in the next few weeks, but I'll start with fair trade this week.
Today I'd love to share about the Story Company, a fair trade company that sells beautiful goods online. This video tells the story best, but make sure to check out the whole website by clicking here and reading this blog post.
Action Item for the Broken-Hearted:
I'm going to plan ahead for birthdays and Christmas to try to give as many fair-trade items this year as possible as gifts. I think my family and friends will love these beautiful international gifts!

My small town has a fair trade store, and I purchase many gifts there. It's like giving two gifts - one to the recipient, and one to the person who is receiving a fair wage for his/her work in making the item. The store is called Global Marketplace, and it is located in Chelsea, Michigan.
{Melinda} I'm trying to get the kids to look at the need around them and reach out. There is plenty in the country, too, unfortunately. They aren't always excited about being involved in charity in the community, but they never leave without a big smile on their face and saying how glad they helped someone else.
Thank you for posting this ... I will go check out the post you mentioned.
Looking forward to seeing you at She Speaks this month!
Love it, Amy! I'm also in the middle of "The Hole in the Gospel." I cried and prayed all the way through the story of God's patient persistent call to Richard Stearns. Now I'm praying through "Part 2" with pen in hand. Fair trade for me started with refusing to buy coffee, unless it's fair trade. Like you, I want to make this Christmas a Fair Trade Christmas. Thanks for posting!
